Rules of the Do Jang

  1. Remove shoes at the door and bow to the National Flag and instructor upon entering or leaving the Do Jang

  2. To introduce to the instructor, or senior grade any visitors you may bring to the club and to ensure that the visitor understands the following rules.

  3. Strict attention is to be given to the instructor at all times.

  4. No smoking in the Do Jang

  5. No swearing or eating inside the Do Jang.

  6. Treat your dobok with the upmost respect before, after and during training. This includes keeping it washed, ironed with creases down the sides and neatly folded.

  7. Upon arriving late, change and see the instructor so that he can advise you what to do.

  8. Students must arrive on time and be ready to begin class, preferably 10 minutes before hand.

  9. Members must obey whoever is in charge.

  10. When the instructor arrives at the Do Jang, the instructor will call the class to attention and bow to the Chief Instructor before commencing class

  11. Members are united in mutual friendship

  12. Taekwondo or self-defence techniques are not to be applied out of the Dojang unless circumstances involving your safety, or the safety of others, are overriding.

  13. No free sparring without permission from the instructor/s

  14. Conversation is to be kept to a minimum during the class.

  15. Students will turn away from the instructor or opponent when adjusting uniform or belt.

  16. When approaching an instructor, student must first bow and then ask questions.

  17. Each class will have a formal ceremonial opening and closing, consisting of a bow to the flags, instructor/s and any senior belts.

  18. When receiving equipment, students must bow to instructors.

  19. Profanity, loss of temper, horseplay, loud laughing and talking, or any display of or lack of self-discipline will not be tolerated.


The Dobok (Uniform):

  1. New Zealand Taekwondo Federation patches are compulsory from blue belt.

  2. Your dobok is not street wear; it is not to be worn down the street.

  3. No jewellery is to be worn except earing studs, and only then at your own risk.

  4. For safety reasons, toe and fingernail should be kept short.
